Spring equinox ✶
Create a spring equinox ritual with crystals, reflection and card reading ✶
For millennia, humans have marked and celebrated the turn of the year with deeply rooted rituals and ceremonies that connect them to the cosmos and symbolize the transition between the old and the new. One of the most remarkable moments in this cosmic dance is the vernal equinox, when day and night balance perfectly, and light truly triumphs over darkness.
For those seeking connection to the spiritual and the beyond, the vernal equinox is a perfect time for manifestation, reflection, and ceremony. Crystals, with their ancient allure and symbolic significance, have long been a central part of these rituals, amplifying intentions and helping us connect more deeply with the universe and nature.
For thousands of years, humans have sought to honor the vernal equinox through various rituals. In ancient Babylon, this time was marked by the first new moon after the vernal equinox, where an 11-day long ritual known as Akitu was performed as a huge religious festival. These ceremonies were not simply celebratory events, but deeply symbolic acts that acknowledged the cycle of time and renewal.
Rituals at the vernal equinox are more than just a festive celebration; they are a way to honor and respect the rhythms of nature and the order of the universe, and a new beginning.
When we engage in these actions, we send a message to the divine that we are aware of our own development and growth.
We reflect on the year that has passed and give thanks for its gifts and lessons, while opening our hearts and minds to the new times that lie ahead.
Here's how you can mark the spring equinox through a beautiful ceremony:
The art of creating a space
Find out what mood you want and what tools and mood-makers should be part of your ritual. These could be:
- Crystals
 - Candles
 - Objects from nature
 - Blankets and pillows
 - Essential oils
 - The lighting in the room
 - A cup of tea or ceremonial cacao, or a glass of water
 - Tarot, oracle, angel, or affirmation cards

For example, you can also create a playlist with the intention of creating the right atmosphere.
Feel free to cleanse your space with incense made from herbs to invite nature in.

Reflect on the year that has passed
You can start your ritual with breathing exercises, meditation, or journaling to create mental clarity and openness.
Take time to reflect on what you want to let go of and what you want to take with you - what you want to make room for in your heart and in your life.
Journaling questions for the past year:
- What has been your greatest accomplishment in the past year?
 - What has been your biggest challenge in the past year?
 - What are you most grateful for in the past year?
 - What do you need to let go of in the previous year?
 - What will you take with you from the previous year?

Journaling questions for the year ahead:
- What are my dreams for the new year?
 - What concrete steps can I take to make the new year the best year I've ever lived?
 - What is my intention for the new year?
 - What is your affirmation for the new year?

Tarot, oracle cards or angel cards
Reading Tarot cards is an art in itself, and is a tool that can give you clarity, answers and the opportunity for further reflection and immersion. You can use it to close the old year and to see what the new year has in store. Below you will find suggestions for questions you can ask your cards that integrate both the old and the new.

 - What should I focus on in particular in the new year?
 - What can I look forward to in the new year?

 - What is my soul's purpose in the new year?

 - A card that symbolizes the new year.
 - A message from the Universe to you.

 Burning
Burning is the most intense and powerful act of letting go of something old that you no longer want to be a part of your life. It is both a very visual and concrete way of showing that you are drawing a line in the sand.
It makes a big difference to do it physically and not just mentally, and can feel much more definitive.
In your ritual you have found out what you want to let go of. Now write it down on a piece of paper.
Set fire to your paper and let it burn in an incense burner or other fireproof material.
Sit in silence and watch what you are letting go disappear. End your burning with a “Thank you.”
Always remember to have something you can use to put out the fire when you burn. Keep textiles and other flammable materials away. If you are not comfortable with burning, you can also bury your banknote in the ground or let it dissolve in water.
 Meditation
Meditation is a great way to create peace of mind and create inner clarity for the new year.
There are so many different ways to meditate, so it's all about finding the method that works best for you. If you haven't tried it before, or haven't found the method that works best for you in the past, I recommend trying guided meditations, audio journeys, or chanting mantras.
