Astrology's journey from Babylonia to today
The astrology has had its place among us people in thousands of years. But where does it really originate? And why does the popularity of astrology so drastically increase in 2021?
I hope that, like me, will find it incredibly exciting when we dive into astrology history in this article. We must look more closely at how astrology and its popularity have evolved from our ancestral's starkiggery to contemporary dissemination of the discipline, and what has really meant that there have been so great fluctuations in the popularity of astrology over time.
Finally, I will give my warmest recommendations of my personal favorites among soulful's spiritual tools, which are obvious to spend along with or alongside their astrological practice.
The birth and dissemination of astrology
When our ancestors looked up at the night sky's sparkling stars, they probably didn't know that it was remote to the sun, they admired. But there ruled there was no doubt that these stars moved in predictable patterns, and it was associated with events such as the seasons shift and tide's coming and going. Thus, the idea of the stars has an impact on our lives as humans founded.
The division of starry sky in the 12 constellations that we know today goes longer than 2,000 years back to Babylonia, where they noted that the Moon went through all his phases about 12 times in a year. They therefore shared the sun's route in 12 parts, and each part was marked with its own constellation. It was such, sun sign - also called zodiac sign - was.
At that time, we thought that we were the center of the universe, and astrology and astronomy were disciplines that hung very close together. In fact, you did not allow the two disciplines any strange great difference. The astronomy told us about the courses of the stars and planets, and astrology told us what impact, these had on us.
In the second century, the Greek scientist, Claudius Ptolemy, made himself famous worldwide when he released some incredibly landmark works. It was, among other things, him who prepared Almagest - a work that mapped the movements of the celestial bodies with mathematical and geometric models. Of course, with a geocentric world picture, when one thought that the Earth was the center of the universe.
This work became the basis of how to calculate calendars in the following 1,500 years. The Claudius Ptolemy was thus a highly welcomed scientist, and like his surroundings, he did not distinguish yourself between astronomy and astrology. He saw both as being science.
In addition to Almagest, Ptolemy also wrote the popular astrological text, Tetrabiblos. It was this text that helped bring Greek astrology to the Middle East and India.
Hello to the scientific method, goodbye to astrology
The astrology was still seen as a scientific discipline in the 16th century, and even the European royal houses affected astrology. They had hired their own private astrologers who in the best show should predict the future.
However, this should change, as some groundbreaking scientific discoveries turned the world on WS. Galileo Galilei was one of the scientists who had to inform us that we does not Was the center of the universe, and that the earth, on the contrary, was cycled about the sun. The 1600s discovered Sir Isaac Newton gravity, and with the telescope invention we could look further into space than ever before - now we could see other moons than our own!
This whole new way of perceiving the world also changed in the way we saw ourselves. Now that we were no longer the center of the universe, had the star's so at all something with us people to do? The astrology did not lose his popularity from one day to the other, but over a long time. And with the scientific method in return, it was serious that a very thick line was drawn in the sand between astrology and astronomy.
The two disciplines were no longer the same - from now on the astronomy under the scientific umbrella, while astrology, which could not be tested, stood outside in the rain. And so it's still that day.
Several hundred years went on where astrology was not particularly popular.
Horoskopkerkums and psychoanalysis were astrology rebirth
There were several things that helped astrology to win his popularity back in the 1900s.
A quirky history of the 1930s London tells us about the astrologer R. H. Naylor, who, in the light of princess Margaret of Britain's birth chart, simply gave as accurate predictions of her life that he got a fixed astrological clump. He dedicated to the newspaper readers by giving horoscopes for their sun sign. This trend spread to other journals.
Another thing that breathed life in people's interest in astrology was the birth of psychoanalysis. The world-renowned Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Gustav Jung, was one of the founders of this. Carl Jung presented theory of the existence of different personality types, and this particular idea underlies the popular Myers-Brigg's personality rate test. Jung was great supporter of astrology.
If you haven't taken Myers-Briggs test, I can in the strongest recommend it. You can take it in Danish right here. The test gives you an incredibly detailed description of who you are under the surface, what jobs you want to thrive best with how you can work on being the best edition of yourself in your love relationships and friendships, and more. The test results can advantageously be seen in interaction with your interpretation of yourself based on your sun sign or your entire birth chart.
In the late 1960s, the popularity of astrology took seriously speed, and lots of music and literature were published on the importance of the sun sign.
Astrology in 2021.
Although astrology as such has not been tilted by the stick since the 1960s, it must recognize that its popularity has increased explosively in the course of 2020 and 2021. There are many bids for what the reasons for this can be, but there is no one doubt that it is closely related to the increasing interest in spirituality and self-development.
For those people who do not feel drawn by religion in the traditional sense, astrology can give something special. It makes us feel like some of something bigger at the same time we feel understood. Astrology gives us a lot of tools to get to know ourselves better and to develop ourselves, and then it reminds us not least that the universe will only the best as soon as we are ready to accept it. That we are associated with the universe - that the universe is in OS. - And that we are not just guests in it.
Of course, one can easily interest in astrology and be religious at one and the same time. But in these years, there is an increasing interest in spirituality - especially in younger generations - and a demand for spiritual practices that are not operated by a concrete upper instance, such as the church. And with social media, it has become easier to find and share information about astrology. New YouTube Videos come, podcasts etc. On, and the big book publishes rates in both professional and fiction, involving astrology. I see it even in my work as Tattoo designer; People greatly want to get tattoos that reflect one or more aspects of their birth chart.
Astrology offers a wide range of self-development tools and information that you can analyze and interpret as you want. One is largely her own Lord when you do wiser on astrology, and it is completely okay to use astrology in its very own way. There is nothing that is too much or too little - you decide how much it should fill in one's life, and if you want to share it with the outside world or keep it private.
Therefore, astrology fits so perfectly into the committee of spiritual traditions, such as tarot reading, meditation, yoga, chakra, etc., as many people love being able to combine crosswise and in a way that fits in their own life and makes sense for them.
