A crystal bathed in the life-giving rays of the sun can be one of the most beautiful things in the world, and you may be tempted to leave them on your windowsill all year round to catch every ray of sunshine. Perhaps you have heard that it can be good to cleanse and charge your crystals in the sun's rays? There is something about that, because the energy of the sun is fantastic for charging your crystals with its vital life energy, which the crystals can then pass on to us, on a rainy day.

Crystals and sunshine are a delicate matter, however, because not all crystals tolerate sunshine equally well. Some crystals thrive wonderfully in sunshine, but I will guide you here to which crystals you should avoid putting in direct sunlight for too long. Please note that there may be differences between individual crystals, and this is a loving invitation to always take responsibility for your crystals if you notice that they have started to fade.

Can Agate tolerate sun?

Yes, Agate can generally withstand sun and will not fade or crumble over time. This applies to all types of agate, including Blonde Agate, Flower Agate, Botswana Agate, Moss Agate and Wood Agate.

Can Aquamarine withstand sun?

Aquamarine can withstand exposure to sunlight for a limited time. Overexposure will cause it to fade over time.

Can Amazonite withstand sun?

Amazonite can withstand exposure to sunlight for a limited time. Overexposure will cause it to fade over time.

Can Ametrine tolerate sun?

No, Ametrine cannot tolerate sunlight and, like Amethyst, will fade over time. There is nothing wrong with leaving it in the sun for a short time, but as a general rule, always try to keep it out of direct sunlight.

Can Amethyst tolerate sun?

No, Amethyst will fade over time and its colors will become more dusty. This can happen relatively quickly, so make sure Amethyst is not in direct sunlight daily.

Can Angelite tolerate sun?

Angelite tolerates sunlight well and does not tend to fade over time.

Can Apatite withstand sun?

Apatite will fade over time in the sun's rays and should not be left there for a long period of time or with daily exposure. This applies to all forms of Apatite.

Can Apophyllite tolerate sun?

Apophyllite absolutely cannot tolerate direct sunlight, and can both fade and become porous in the sun's rays.

Can Aragonite withstand sun?

Aragonite cannot tolerate sun, and is generally a very delicate crystal that cannot tolerate high temperatures, water or salt.

Can Auralite 23 withstand sun exposure?

Auralite primarily gets its color from Amethyst, and will fade over time, and its colors will become more dusty. This can happen relatively quickly, so make sure it is not in direct sunlight daily.

Can Aventurine withstand sun?

Aventurine can fade over time if exposed to direct sunlight for a long period of time. This applies to all types of Aventurine.

Can Azurite withstand sun?

Azurite cannot withstand the sun's rays, as it is extremely sensitive to heat and tends to fade in the sun's rays.

Can Bloodstone tolerate sun?

Bloodstone tolerates sunlight and will not lose its color.

Can rock crystal withstand sun?

Rock crystal is very sensitive to the sun's rays. You can leave Rock crystal in the sun's rays for a limited time, but keep it under constant supervision, as it can intensify the sun and ignite.

Can Calcite withstand sun?

Calcite cannot tolerate sunlight, as it can become more porous and lose its color. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight.

Can Celestite tolerate sun?

Celestite cannot tolerate direct sunlight under any circumstances, and can both lose its color and become porous.

Can Chrysocolla tolerate sun?

Chrysoprase can become pale and porous if exposed to too much sunlight. However, a short time in the sun's rays is not harmful.

Citrine cannot tolerate sunlight as it will fade quickly.

Can Fluorite withstand sun?

Fluorite cannot tolerate sunlight as it will fade quickly. This applies to all Fluorite varieties.

Can Garnet tolerate sun?

Garnet tolerates the sun's rays well and will not be damaged by direct sunlight.

Can Howlite withstand sun?

Howlite is not damaged by the sun's rays, and you can easily leave it in direct sunlight.

Can Hematite withstand sun?

Hematite normally tolerates sunlight well and is highly unlikely to fade. However, be careful not to expose it to moisture if you place it outside.

Can Jade tolerate sun?

Jade can withstand sun and will not fade over time. Jade is a good crystal to have on your windowsill.

Can Jasper tolerate sun?

Jasper tolerates the sun's rays very well, and you can easily have all types of Jasper such as Ocean Jasper, Red Jasper or Kambaba Jasper lying in direct sunlight.

Can Carnelian withstand sun?

Carnelian tolerates sunlight and will not be bleached by direct sunlight.

Can Kunzite withstand sun?

Kunzite cannot tolerate direct sunlight under any circumstances and will quickly lose its color.

Can Kyanite withstand sun?

Kyanite tolerates limited exposure to direct sunlight, as it can overheat and crack – or lose color.

Can Labradorite withstand sun?

Labradorite tolerates the sun's rays and will not be bleached by direct sunlight.

Can Lapis Lazuli withstand sun?

Lapis Lazuli tolerates limited exposure to direct sun, as it can overheat and crack – or lose color.

Can Larimar withstand sun?

Larimar tolerates limited exposure to direct sunlight, but will fade after extended periods of intense sun.

Lepidolite cannot tolerate sunlight as it will fade quickly.

Malachite cannot tolerate sunlight, as it is extremely sensitive to heat and tends to fade in the sun's rays.

Can Moldavite withstand sun?

Moldavite is sun-tolerant and will not fade in direct sunlight. However, keep an eye on it if it is exposed to sunlight for several hours a day.

Can Muscovite tolerate sun?

Muscovite cannot withstand the sun's rays as it will fade quickly.

Pyrite generally cannot tolerate direct sunlight, and you may find that your Pyrite may develop noticeable stains and become less shiny when exposed to direct sunlight.

Can Rose Quartz tolerate sun?

Rose quartz cannot tolerate direct sunlight, and you may find that it fades and becomes more porous. However, you may also find that Rose Quartz from Madagascar is more resistant to the sun's rays than Rose Quartz from, for example, Brazil.

Can Rhodochrosite withstand sun?

Rhodochrosite does not tolerate sunlight and will quickly fade and become more porous from direct exposure.

Emerald tolerates the sun's rays well and will not fade.

Can Sodalite withstand sun?

Sodalite tolerates sunlight well and will not fade.

Can Solsten withstand sun?

Sunstone tolerates sunlight well. However, keep an eye on it if it is exposed to sunlight for several hours a day. 

Can Spirit Quartz withstand sun?

Spirit Quartz will quickly lose its color if exposed to direct sunlight. It will become dull and pale to look at.

Can Tiger Eye tolerate sun?

Tiger's eye tolerates limited exposure to direct sun.

Can Tourmaline withstand sun?

Black Tourmaline tolerates sunlight well and will not fade. However, be extra careful if your Tourmaline is a different color such as green or pink.

Can Turquoise withstand sun?

Turquoise cannot tolerate direct sunlight and you may experience fading.

Can Unakite withstand sun?

Unakit tolerates limited exposure to direct sunlight.
